This tab style is primitive, but popular. You can find the music to a lot of songs in this format on the Internet. And it works well enough as a convenient, if rough, guide to playing songs that you know well. But the format is very limiting: It only really tells you where to put your fingers. This style of tablature is only helpful when you already have a pretty good sense of how the song goes and can fill in rhythm, tempo, strumming patterns, dynamics and so on - virtually everything but the notes themselves - on your own.
