The search form helps you search, sort and filter that growing library to discover the songs you want to play.
Use the text field to search songs by "keyword". Song with matching title, artists, or albums will be included in your results, sorted by relevancy.
Use the facet or "tag" buttons to filter or sort your results based on additional criteria.
Filtering by Facet
In general the facet buttons will apply additional criteria that filter or order your song search results. The buttons are "modal" - each facet may be included, excluded or ignored.
See below for a detailed description of each filter.
Bass / Ukulele
Recall that most songs in FATpick include a transcription for more than one part or instrument. The Bass / Ukulele button will filter your song list to exclude any songs that do not include a 4-string track. In other words, when this facet is active every song listed will include at least one playable tab for bass, ukulele or another four-string instrument.
Again, most songs in FATpick include a transcription for more than one part or instrument. The Guitar button will filter your song list to exclude any songs that do not include at least one 6-string track. When this button is active every song listed will include at least one six-string guitar tab.
The Chords facet will limit your search results to songs that include at least one track with explicit chord and strumming pattern annotations.
Note that many of the tracks imported into FATpick's catalog have implicit chord information, but this filter does not include every rhythm guitar track. Only those that have explicit chord annotations are included.
Unlike the others mentioned so far, the filter button labeled "Featured" has three distinct modes: included, excluded and inactive.
When "included", search results will be limited to those songs explicitly tagged "featured" by the FATpick team. These are a sort of "editor's choice" collection of songs.
When "excluded", songs tagged "featured" will be left out of the search results.
When "inactive", the featured or not-featured status of a song will not change whether or not it appears in the search results. Both featured and not featured songs will be visible.
The "My Songs" filter will include or exclude songs that you have personally imported into FATpick, whether as part of your personal (private) song library or shared with other users.
When this button is active, only those songs that you have bookmarked as a "Favorite" will be included in the search results.
Like "My Songs" and "Featured Songs", you can invert this facet in order to exclude songs that you have tagged as a favorite.
While most of the song search facet buttons will "filter" the song list - including or excluding specific songs based on some criterion - the "new songs" facet (as well as the following "recently played" facet) will primarily change the order in which the songs appear on the list.
The "New Songs" facet is active the songs that were most recently added to FATpick's catalog will appear at the top of the list, with older songs found deeper in the list of results.
Inverting the "New Songs" facet (when that the button turns red), will reverse the sort. In that case the least recently added songs will appear first in the list, and songs get younger (newer) as you page through the results.
Note that like all of the various facets, this logic is combined with the other criteria you've used to search, sort or filter the results. For example if you've entered a search keyword and enabled the "Bass" facet in addition to applying the "New" filter, your list will include songs that match the given keyword and include at least one bass (four string) track, sorted by the time at which the song was imported into FATpick's catalog.
Recently Played Songs
Like the "New Songs" filter, this facet will change the order in which songs appear in the search result list.
When this button is active ("included"), songs will appear in the order in which you have most recently played them. The song you last played (matching your other search or filtering criteria, if any) will be first in the list. The second most-recently-played song will appear second in the list, and so on.
When this button is inverted ("excluded"), songs will appear in the opposite order. The song you most recently played will be last in the list, songs you haven't played recently - or perhaps haven't played at all - will appear first in the list.
This filter is a useful way to both (a) revisit the songs you've been working on lately and (b) discover new songs to play, or songs you haven't played in while.
FATpick is a smart tablature viewer that listens to your performance to provide instant feedback on your timing and accuracy while you play along with any guitar.
